Isuru Jayaratna, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained urologic surgical oncologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract and male reproductive cancers. Dr. Jayaratna has trained and worked as a physician in renowned medical institutions for nearly two decades. His mission is to approach patients with empathy and empower them with knowledge, and he takes great pride in explaining complex information clearly so patients understand their situation and make the best decisions for their care. Dr. Jayaratna is an expert robotic surgeon who collaborates with other specialties to find organ sparing treatments whenever possible, but he also leads clinical trials in order to bring cutting edge medical therapies to patients who need them.

About Me

My wife, dog and I are excited to be moving to Jacksonville from New York City. In my free time, I enjoy bicycling, reading, watching movies and exploring different kinds of music. These activities help me recharge so I can bring my best self to my patients and my work.

What I find most rewarding about medicine is the interpersonal connection with each patient. Everyone brings something unique to the table based on their life story, and I learn from every interaction. Cancer can be profoundly destabilizing—it's often unexpected and disorienting. I try to be attuned to that reality and provide support not just as an expert, but as someone who wants to empower patients so they can regain control in their lives and have the confidence to follow through with their treatment journey.

I'm passionate about cancer biology and therapeutics, and I believe strongly in the value of clinical trials. They advance scientific knowledge while giving patients access to promising, cutting-edge treatments. Being able to offer these opportunities to my patients is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.
