Our board is physician-led and comprised of 11 physicians and 7 health system executives.

    Craig Shapiro, MD

    Board Chair

    Dr. Shapiro is a board-certified nephrologist in private practice with Nephrology Associates of NE FL. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of medicine and Physician Quality Champion at Baptist Medical Center.

    Dr. Shapiro earned his medical degree from Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School, and completed his residency and fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Beth Israel Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center campuses respectively. He also recently earned his MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of Colorado Denver.

    Sofija Rak, MD

    Vice President

    Dr. Rak grew up in Jacksonville and has returned home to pursue a career with Baptist Primary Care. While in college, she was given a full ride scholarship by Dolores and Wayne Weaver to go to UNF in order to keep young bright minds in town. Dr. Rak has been with Mandarin South primary care office for over 10 years. She enjoys being involved with matters that concern physicians directly and thinks it is important for physicians to contribute in leadership roles.

    Deborah Abram, MD, FAAP

    Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for Baptist Health

    Deborah Abram, MD, FAAP, is a pediatric hospitalist who practices with Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville. She currently serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) of Baptist Health, and is the former Chief-of-Staff at Wolfson Children's Hospital. Dr. Abram has more than 35 years of leadership experience in a hospital environment, with extensive expertise in medical informatics, quality and change management. In 2023, she was named on Becker's Hospital Review's list of "CMIOs to Know." Dr. Abram studied medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia and received her pediatric training at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati. She also serves as a board member for Baptist Health Foundation.

  • Michael Ammiano

    Michael Ammiano is a retired insurance executive and currently is a Board member at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. During his 42 year career, he held leadership and sales executive positions with several global commercial insurance brokers, including Arthur J Gallagher and Harden in Jacksonville. 

    Ammiano was the lead commercial insurance consultant to Baptist Health System in Jacksonville from 1998 until his retirement in 2022. His areas of expertise include Alternative Risk Financing Methods, including Captives, Self-Insurance, and Medical Malpractice. He has worked with some of the largest healthcare systems throughout the region and was the endorsed commercial insurance advisor to the Florida Hospital Association. He is a native of Jacksonville and currently resides on Amelia Island.

    Alison Bartfield, MD

    Dr. Alison Bartfield is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician who is the Baptist Health Interim System Vice President, Quality & Clinical Effectiveness and Medical Director for Senior Strategy.

    Dr. Bartfield earned her medical degree from University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her residency at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. She currently practices at Baptist Inpatient Services and is affiliated with Baptist Medical Center Beaches.

    Linda Di Teodoro, MD

    Dr. DiTeodoro is a board-certified gastroenterologist with Borland-Groover Clinic. Dr. DiTeodoro earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University. She went on to complete her fellowship training in gastroenterology at University of Florida and Hepatology and Liver Transplant -Fellowship at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. She has board certifications in both gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.

    Marsha Donaldson

    Ms. Donaldson is the Vice President for Baptist Primary Care, Inc, a 180+ physician member group of Baptist Health. As Vice President of the group, Donaldson works closely with Baptist Health executive and physician leadership in overseeing the operational and strategic planning for the 65 physician practices and implementing key health system strategies.

    Benjamin Ernst, DO

    Benjamin Ernst, DO, is a primary care physician who specializes in family medicine. He has more than 20 years of clinical experience, including having served as a doctor in the U.S. Navy. During his tenure at Baptist Health, Dr. Ernst has served on several committees and boards, including on the executive board of Baptist Primary Care and on Baptist Physician Partner's finance and contracting committee. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University and did his residency at Carilion Health System, which serves communities in Virginia and West Virginia.

    Brian Gilligan, MD

    Dr. Gilligan is a board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physician and current Chief of Staff at Wolfson Children's Hospital. He is the medical director of the pediatric emergency department at Wolfson South and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship site director at Wolfson Children's Hospital. He is on the board of directors for Emergency Resources Group and Telescope Health.

    Dr. Gilligan earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota, completed pediatric residency at the University of Michigan, and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at the University of Florida / Jacksonville.

    Edward Gorak, DO

    Dr. Edward Gorak is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the founding Head of the Division of Cancer Medicine and Physician in-Chief at Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center. His national committee appointments include National Heart Lung and Blood Institute’s National Myelodysplastic Syndrome Natural History Study Steering Committee.

    Amy Greenwald, MD

    Dr. Greenwald is a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist in private practice with Women’s Care and previously served as the Chief of Staff at Baptist Medical Center South. Dr. Greenwald earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch- Galveston and completed her OB/Gyn residency at The University of Florida Health Science Center at Jacksonville.

    Timothy Groover, MD

    Senior Vice President and System Chief Medical Officer

    Dr. Groover is the Senior Vice President and System Chief Medical Officer of Baptist Health. He is a board-certified anesthesiologist with US Anesthesia Partners - North Florida. Dr. Groover earned his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

    In addition to his medical training, Dr. Groover holds an MBA from the University of Tennessee. He is a Certified Physician Executive and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

    Mary Leen, DNP, ARNP

    Mary Leen, DNP, ARNP is vice president of clinical operations for Baptist Physician Partners. She leads teams to work closely with physicians and other care providers to achieve BPP’s “triple aim” objectives of improving quality, safety, efficiency and outcomes for patients.

    Leen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida State University, Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Jacksonville University.

    Michael Mayo, DHA, FACHE

    President and Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health

    Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health. Mayo has more than 32 years of health executive experience, including his most recent role as Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville hospital president.

    As CEO, he oversees five hospitals: Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Wolfson Children's Hospital, along with four satellite Emergency Centers, 55 primary care offices, more than 13,000 team members and 1,762 physicians.

    Dr. Rill is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and current Chief of Staff of Baptist Hospital Jacksonville, privileged to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Emergency Resources Group (ERG) and Telescope Health. As CEO of ERG and Telescope Health, Matt is responsible for all facets of the organizations’ clinical sites and ventures.

    Curtis Storm, MD

    Dr. Storm has been in the health field for more than 15 years. He partners with his patients to optimize their care and achieve the best possible health. Outside of the office, he is very committed to community outreach programs and is involved with the Boys and Girls Club, community food drives and health lectures at various venues. Dr. Storm earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.

    Keith Tickell

    Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Baptist Health

    Keith A. Tickell is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Baptist Health. He brings extensive prior experience in finance, including serving as the Chief Financial Officer in four companies.

    In his dual role, Tickell not only leads all aspects of finance including financial planning, financial reporting, financial oversight of tax and treasury functions, but also shaping the strategies and environments for Baptist Health’s future growth throughout the region.

    Matthew A. Zuino

    Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Baptist Health

    Mr. Zuino is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Baptist Health. With 20 years of Physician and Hospital Operations experience, he provides strategic and operational support around the system, to include primary care, specialty clinics, Clinical integration network, and Baptist Physician Partners.

    As a six sigma black belt, Mr. Zuino holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Widener University and his Masters of Science from Drexel University in Pennsylvania.
